Gynecologic Oncology
Research in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology is largely concentrated in participation in national clinical trials. There also is considerable collaboration with basic oncology researchers at the Cross Cancer Institute, home of most of the division’s outpatient clinics. Surgical care of gynecologic oncology patients takes place at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital site.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The five full-time academic faculty members of this division's core clinical team provide tertiary consultation services for northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories, as well as western Saskatchewan and northeastern British Columbia.
Research in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Division has grown exponentially. This has occurred in both basic sciences and clinical investigation.
The academic faculty members of this division work with basic scientists in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology who specialize in perinatal research. As well, several faculty from the Department of Medicine hold cross-appointments in the MFM Division, along with one faculty member specializing in pediatric cardiology.
The MFM Division has been involved in several Canadian multicentre clinical research trials over the years, both as a participating centre and more recently as a lead centre.

Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility
This division does a large volume of clinical work in the Regional Fertility and Women’s Endocrine Clinic. Patients are seen by an integrated team of care providers which includes infertility nurses, laboratory technologists and embryologists. With the start of the in vitro fertilization (IVF) program in 2008, a full range of assisted reproductive technologies is now available in Edmonton.
Patients with other reproductive endocrine problems, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), recurrent miscarriage and menstrual irregularities, are also seen by this group of physicians. In addition to his adult practice, Dr. Motan sees pediatric gynecology patients.

Reproductive Sciences
The Division of Reproductive Sciences is located on the main campus of the University of Alberta. It is composed of internationally recognized basic and clinical scientists who use basic science to study women’s health.
Historically, our basic science research strength has been in the area of perinatology; however, we continue to build research strength in other areas of women’s health such as vascular effects of menopause and mechanisms of ovarian tumour development.
